Here at GH, we love a good detective drama – whether that means cosy crime or something a little more gritty. So, when we found Acorn TV’s Signora Volpe – a blend of The Madame Blanc Mysteries and The Night Manager – we were more than a little bit excited. The British detective series is the sort of series that keeps you guessing until the end of every episode - and, excitingly, it'll soon be returning for a third run.
If you’re yet to catch up on series 1 and 2, here’s a (spoiler-free!) rundown. Emilia Fox plays disillusioned former spy Sylvia ‘Signora Volpe’ Fox who visits Italy to attend a wedding. Once there, she finds herself in the midst of a puzzling murder case involving local crime and ancient secrets – and she can’t help but get involved. The second instalment finds Sylvia settled in Umbria and drawn into more local mysteries, including the death of a respected local figure at his very own charity event. Mysterious indeed!
Whiile we patiently wait for Signora Volpe series 3 to arrive on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the series, including the cast, plot and how to watch it.
What is Signora Volpe about?
The D, which first aired in 2022, introduces us to titular ex-MI6 operative Sylvia ‘Signora Volpe’ Fox (Emilia Fox), who makes a move to Italy after feeling disillusioned with her job. There, at the wedding of her niece, things take an unexpected turn when a body is discovered in the lake behind the groom’s house. Sylvia quickly taps back into her sleuthing skills and Sylvia digs into the case, finding ties to a local Umbrian mob.
In series 2, we meet Sylvia again when she's settled in Italy, but she still can’t help being drawn to local mysteries - and solving them. We follow her as she investigates murders and goes on undercover missions – all while navigating family dynamics and a whirlwind romance. There’s also the not-so-small plot detail of Slyvia getting abducted and her family racing to rescue her!
What will happen in Signora Volpe series 3?
We're pleased to say we’ll be returning to the Italian countryside and there's plenty more drama! The three-part series (each episode is 90 minutes long) will see Sylvia physically and mentally recovering from her abduction and attempting to enjoy her life in Italy. While lingering questions about her ordeal remain, she's settling back into the rhythm of her new life in Italy and her relationship with Carabinieri captain Giovanni Riva (Giovanni Cirfiera) continues to grow.
What to read next
However, she's soon drawn back into danger through a series of complex investigations, which include the murder of a local winery owner and the mysterious death of a young man found in the bed of a prominent power couple. As each mystery hits closer to home and forces Sylvia to confront difficult truths, a devastating loss and the return of someone from her past come back to haunt her.
