What would you do if the person who saved you from a terrifying attack started to become a little too interested in your life? That’s the creepy situation daytime TV presenter Lucy finds herself in in Channel 5’s new thriller, Number One Fan. Combining stars of the broadcaster's other hits series The Madame Blanc Mysteries and The Feud, the upcoming drama portrays what happens when devotion goes too far.
With the lead roles played by Jill Halfpenny (The Feud) and Sally Lindsay (The Madame Blanc Mysteries), the four-part series tells the story of Lucy (Halfpenny), who’s saved from an attack by a woman named Donna (Lindsay), AKA Lucy’s number one fan. Initially, Donna is hugely appreciative of Donna’s help – but when Donna starts to get a little to invested in Lucy’s life, things take a rather eerie turn.
With the series set to air on Channel 5 imminently, here’s everything you need to know about Number One Fan, including the full plot, cast, trailer and how to watch it.
What is Number One Fan about?
The four-part thriller is set in the world of daytime TV and focuses on morning show presenter Lucy (Jill Halfpenny), who’s saved from an attack by a woman named Donna (Sally Lindsay). Donna claims to be Lucy’s “number one fan” and while, at first, Lucy is grateful, things soon start to spiral.
Lucy’s gratitude begins to sour when Donna’s fandom turns into something of an obsession, which infiltrates Lucy’s career, family and friends. And while one might wonder why Lucy doesn't simply erase Donna from her life, it turns out Donna has a link to a hidden secret in Lucy's past, which threatens to derail the career she's so carefully curated.
Head of Drama and 5's Deputy Chief Content Officer, Sebastian Cardwell, told Televisual of the series: “Number One Fan is looking really good. We’re trying to find mystery thrillers that are slightly richer, not always in a domestic/home environment.”

What other thrillers can I watch now?
If you haven’t yet watched Netflix’s The Beast in Me, it’s a very good place to start. Claire Danes leads the series as author Aggie Wiggs, while Matthew Rhys stars as her real estate mogul neighbour, Nile Jarvis, who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. Netflix has also recently acquired Captivated, starring Kara Tointon as a cleaner who is approached by a wealthy businessman offering her a new job with better pay and shorter hours. And his offer might just be too good to be true. For more great thrillers coming to our screens this year, check out our pick of the very best here.
