While The Princess of Wales rightly gets the spotlight when it comes to top-scoring royal style, The Duchess of Edinburgh's own fashion credentials can often slip under the radar. Now in her 60s, Sophie has learned what suits her and has lined up some classic combinations she frequently returns to. In the summer months, she looks to midi dresses and espadrille wedges. In winter, it's long sleeve midis with stylish coats. And, when it comes to accessories, light and timeless gold jewellery pieces reign supreme.
There are also some specific pieces which The Duchess returns to time and time again, and she was recently photographed during a Somalia trip in one of her most versatile and positively ageless pieces: a crisp, double-breasted blazer.
'It’s no surprise that Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh has a soft spot for a classic white blazer - they’re undeniably one of the most versatile staples any well-dressed woman can own,' says GH's Junior Fashion Editor, Emma Richardson. 'The key reason? It’s white, so it adds a brightening touch to any wardrobe, making any outfit you wear look fresh and youthful, no matter what the occasion is.'
Sophie's favourite blazer is by Altuzarra, and she last wore it at Wimbledon in July 2025, where she joined other members of the Royal Family to watch all the action from the royal box.
And it's not just her Altuzarra jacket which Sophie relies on, she also has another timeless white jacket which she is often snapped in. This time it's a cropped version, as she can be seen wearing at a remembrance service in 2024.
In fact, Sophie's 'ageless' white blazer is also a style trick The Princess of Wales has leaned on. For instance, while attending the 2022 Commonwealth Games alongside Princess Charlotte and Prince William.
In case you're inspired by Sophie's style, we've found some great high street alternatives which echo her look. If you want something with a double-breasted fit like The Duchess', the this Mint Velvet option could work:
This Coast piece is also double-breasted designed, and we love the longer line fit. While it's designed as bridal wear, it could be worn almost anywhere:
A high street brand often leaned on by Kate is Zara, and we love this white blazer which feels extra luxe and sleek, thanks to it's lapel-less design:
And, if you want to channel the look but in a slightly less formal way, then this M&S cardigan could be the way to go - we love the gold buttoning:
