Cindy Crawford is one of the world's most iconic supermodels, and the 90s star looks just as fabulous as ever now she's into her 60s. Wondering how she stays looking so good? This is the number one rule she follows; 'I try to be 80 per cent good 80 per cent of the time,' according to Marie Clare. While Cindy prioritises whole foods over packaged or processed, and largely avoids sugar, she does make sure she has some treats, too.
'I drink alcohol, or tequila on the the rocks. I avoid mixed drinks, like margaritas, because I always feel better without the sugar,' Cindy told Allure. 'If my daughter wants to make brownies once in a while, I can have one with her.'
It seems Cindy has a firm sweet tooth as, according to Marie Clare, she never goes a day without her chocolate fix: 'I definitely need a piece of dark chocolate after dinner every night. If I don’t have it, I could eat a hundred other things and still not be satisfied.'
Cindy might finish the day with something sweet, but her mornings begin with a smoothie packed with goodness. 'I make a protein shake with almond milk, coconut milk, and protein powder. Around 10:30 A.M., I'll have half an Ezekiel or spelt muffin,' she told Allure. For lunch, Cindy relies on salads, sometimes adding protein like chicken. Snacks include, 'almonds, an apple and a slice of cheese, or hummus with celery' or 'almonds, San-J Tamari crackers, maybe Urban Remedy [gluten-free] brownies.'
When it comes to her evening meal, she goes for salmon or chicken with salad or vegetables, before it's time for her chocolate. And, on busy days, she fills up on brown rice and grilled veggies, because she knows 'it will feel good in my stomach and I won't feel gross and full.'
While Cindy's main meals of the day revolve around healthier staples, it wasn't always this way. Growing up in midwest USA, her diet was very different - as she explained to Allure; 'all I ate was steak and, occasionally, vegetables with cheese on top.'
As well as eating well, Cindy relies on one particular exercise to keep her feeling strong - and to keep her back pain at bay. ‘Currently, I do Pilates twice a week on a reformer, which I love,’ she said on the Him & Her Show. ‘I’ve only been doing that for the last 10 years, and I have to say, because I sometimes get lower back stuff, even if my back’s hurting.’
