Imagine your dream detective drama? Does it have a brilliantly gusty detective in it? A glamorous 1920s setting? Murders in unlikely settings? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, we’ve found just the series for you - and it goes by the name of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. The Agatha Christie-esque drama takes us back to the roaring 1920s where, despite the glamorous setting, there’s murder and mayhem aplenty.

If you’ve never seen the series, you’ll be pleased to know there are three instalments of the 10/10 drama to start making your way through on U – which means Miss Fisher has her work cut out.

Based on Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher Murder Mystery novels, the Australian series is set in 1920s Melbourne and revolves around the titular Phyrne Fisher (Essie Davis). Phryne is a glamorous detective who stands out from the crowd (well, some might say so), and over the course of three series, we see her solve all manner of crimes (see also: murders) that take place in jazz clubs, bordellos, and opium dens - often with the help of Detective Inspector Jack Robinson (Nathan Page).

The series is undeniably Agatha Christie-like and Phryne Fisher is a detective Christie would no doubt approve of. She’s smart, funny, unapologetic and she doesn’t take no for an answer. She’s also haunted by a childhood trauma; her younger sister, Janey, was kidnapped and murdered when they were watching a circus together as children, and the crime still haunts Phryne, who believes she should have done more to protect her sibling.
