Some TV shows are decent, others are great and then there are the ones you get totally obsessed with, like The Day. The new Paramount+ crime thriller, which stars the always brilliant Minnie Driver, takes a classic edge-of-your-seat bank heist scenario and throws in a clever psychological element that gives us the perspective of just about everyone involved. It's pacy, it's thrilling - and if you're a fan of unpredictable police dramas like Line of Duty, we think you'll adore it.
What's even more clever about The Day is that fact that the eight-part series takes place over the course of a single day, with the police stumbling upon the bank mid-heist, which triggers the villains to bolt themselves inside the building with a number of hostages. Driver plays hostage negotiator Sylvia “Vox” Voxley and we watch her as she races against the clock to free those caught up in it.

What is The Day about?
The series, which is based on the 2018 Belgian series De Dag, revolves around a high-stakes bank heist and the hostage situation that ensues as a result of it. The drama unfolds over the course of a single day, beginning with the police stumbling across a bank robbery mid-heist. In a terrifying turn of events, the criminals lock themselves inside along with several hostages.
The series opens from the perspective of the police, led by hostage negotiator Sylvia "Vox" Voxley (Minnie Driver, pictured above in Run Away). Vox battles to save the hostages as quickly as she can, but just as the crisis hurtles towards breaking point, the story rewinds and we relive the same events through the eyes of the robbers and their hostages.
Paramount+ has described the series as a "propulsive, edge-of-your-seat" series, while star Minnie Driver has teased what's in store on Instagram, saying: "New job. Clever scripts, sharp characters. I think you will like it (second slide is just a dress I like)." You can see the full post above.
