Few people have given us as many iconic comedy moments as Dawn French, but her latest project marks a more personal chapter. The Vicar of Dibley and Can You Keep a Secret? star is preparing to release her fifth book, Enough, which deals with themes of ageing and mortality – and she’s inviting fans to join her at a special In Conversation event in London and Bath to hear all about it.

The bestselling author will be joined on stage by Sue Perkins for what promises to be a warm, witty and revealing evening celebrating the publication of what her publisher has called her “most ambitious” novel yet. “Frankly, I’m far too overexcited to be comin’ atcha about all things new book,” says Dawn of the event. “It’s called Enough, so come along and let’s see if it is!”

Taking place at the Lyceum Theatre, London, on 18 May 2026 and The Forum, Bath on 2 June 2026, Sue will interview Dawn live on stage in a candid and heartfelt discussion covering Dawn’s extraordinary career in comedy and TV, the inspiration behind her writing, and how Enough came to life.

While fans can expect plenty of humour from the book, Enough also explores more poignant themes. The novel was inspired by Dawn’s personal reflections on ageing and mortality and the result is a darkly funny, deeply moving and ultimately life-affirming story.

At the heart of it is 68-year-old Etta, a happy, healthy and an active participant in the world who, one morning, gathers her loved ones to tell them: “Today is my last day alive.” And what follows becomes one of the most meaningful and affirming days they will ever share.

Dawn told The Bookseller: “Through writing Etta, I have faced a fear. I have attempted to write as fearlessly as I can about getting older and facing the endgame, as we all must.

“Is Etta selfish or selfless when she proposes the ultimate answer to aging? When I began this novel, I was uncertain of how it would end. I decided to let the characters persuade me one way or the other. I wanted end of life to affirm life, if you like.”

Tickets for the live events, which include a copy of the new novel, published by Penguin Michael Joseph, are available now from Ticketmaster. Whether you’re a lifelong Dawn French fan, love live comedy and events, or simply fancy an uplifting evening filled with humour, honesty and brilliant storytelling, it’s set to be a very special night indeed.
