It's fast approaching one of our favourite times of year but don't worry, we're not talking about Christmas! Garden and flower show season is finally upon us. And, if we weren't excited enough about what the various shows have to offer this year, there's now a whole new reason to look forward to one in particular - the Royal Windsor Flower Show.

As always, there will be plenty of impressive gardens and exhibitors showcasing this June, but there's also a very special addition expected from a royal family member. This weekend (Sunday 10 May), the Royal Family and Royal Windsor Flower Show released an intriguing joint statement saying that 'something is blooming...' for Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. In a selection of images shared to social media, The Duchess can be seen strolling with one of the gardening world's biggest stars - Alan Titchmarsh, who is also the Royal Windsor Flower Show's honorary president.

In the post, it was announced that Sophie would be co-designing The Plants with Purpose Garden which will 'sit at the heart of the Royal Windsor Flower Show this year'. Sophie's chosen collaborator is Alan Williams of Landform Consultants, and the pair met with Alan Titchmarsh to discuss their design and the inspiration behind it.

The aim of the garden is therefore to 'highlight the importance of healthy soil and an understanding of how food is grown,' explained the post.

The announcement comes ahead of next week's Chelsea Flower Show, the biggest staple in the garden show calendar which is regularly attended by various Royal Family members. High profile collaborations are frequently seen at the show, including a dog-friendly garden from DJ and gardening enthusiast Jo Whiley in partnership with Monty Don last year. The garden was created to be replanted at Battersea Cats and Dogs home, where Queen Camilla is a patron and even adopted her latest pup called Moley from.

The Royal Windsor Flower Show takes place on 6 June 2026. Chelsea Flower Show takes place from Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 May, with a plant sell off on Saturday 23 May.
