As the Princess of Wales wrapped up her tour of Italy this week, we’ve been keeping a firm eye on her wardrobe. For day one of the trip, which is part of her work with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, Kate picked up on the major fashion trend of shades of blue, wearing a suit by Edeline Lee.

While not all of us are ready to go all in on the blue trend with a matching set, the Princess of Wales also chose an accessory for the occasion that is an easy trend to copy. We’re talking, of course, about her bag, in a powder blue shade that’s reminiscent of some of Princess Diana’s most iconic looks.

Remember that icy blue gown Diana wore to Cannes film festival in 1987? Or the baby blue satin ensemble she wore while pregnant with Prince Harry, appearing at the premiere of Indiana Jones? Or the ice blue set she chose for a Royal visit to Qatar? It’s safe to say Diana loved this particular hue.

Taking style cues from Diana, Kate wore a smart top-handle bag by British brand Asprey, a label she’s worn multiple times over the years. The specific accessory is Asprey’s 167 mini bag, which was from a past season and is no longer available. But a smaller version, the micro mini 167 in ice blue, is available to buy for £3,150.

It’s a chic design that goes perfectly with the Princess of Wales’ blue suit, but would also look excellent paired with a more neutral outfit. Think a white shirt and blue jeans or a polka dot dress. A light blue bag functions perfectly as a way to lift a basic ensemble into an on-trend look that feels ideal for spring.

The good news for us is that the high street has some fantastic spins on the trend. We’ve found some ideal copies of Kate’s item below.

The closest match we’ve found at a far more reasonable price is the Elena top handle bag from JLR London, comprised entirely of leather and just £100. Like Kate’s, it has a top handle and metal hardware, along with a crossbody strap for hands-free wear.

A more spacious option that’s perfect for daytime is this leather tote by Jones Bootmaker, again with golden hardware and a crossbody strap. Plus, this one’s big enough to fit your paperback.

Hobbs’ take on the powder blue bag trend is slightly less structured, and has an easy magnetic closure so you don’t need to fiddle around with a lock every time you want to get out your lip balm.
