Is there anything better than a good wedding? Perhaps only if it's a royal wedding and, thanks to Princes William and Harry, we've been treated to two in recent memory. Today (19 May) marks eight years since Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot and, to mark the occasion, the bride has shared a selection of never-seen photos from the wedding's after-party, as well as behind-the-scenes shots from the day itself.
Back in 2018, the nation watched as Meghan Markle made her way down the aisle of St George's Chapel, Windsor, alone. She wore a stunning, off-the-shoulder gown by Clare Waight Keller, creative director of Givenchy, and the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara atop a long veil flowing over her train. Prince Harry stood at the front of the church with his brother, Prince William, waiting for his bride as the world watched the full ceremony broadcast on TV.
Eight years later, the couple have stepped back from royal life and are settled in California with their two children; Archie and Lilibet. To remember their wedding day, Meghan shared two social media posts with the same caption, 'Eight years ago today...' and credited photographer Chris Allerton. The first post documents Prince Harry and Meghan's first dance at their reception, with Prince Harry in a velvet tuxedo and Meghan wearing a white halter-neck gown.
In the photos, the couple look happy and in love as they dance together, and are snapped kissing on the dance floor. The second post documents the more formal part of the day, showing the couple standing together shortly after saying their vows. We see Prince Harry delivering his speech, with Meghan standing beside him with a glass of champagne, before they share a kiss after the toast. There's also a close up of Elton John performing from a piano. Meghan reshared some of her favourite snaps to her story with the soundtrack, 'Forever Your Girl' by Paula Abdul.
While the couple generally keep their personal and family life private, they have increasingly been sharing further insight, with photographs from home and of their children (although not including their faces).
Earlier this month, Meghan revealed the couple had enjoyed a day at Disneyland with Meghan mother Doria, and shared a sweet photo of Prince Harry holding his newborn son, Archie, to mark their son's seventh birthday.
