It was a special day for the Wales family on Saturday, as Prince George took on his first official engagement. Luckily, the future king didn't have to do it completely on his own, as his mum, The Princess of Wales, was there to support him as they marked Armed Forces Day together.

The mother-son duo arrived at RAF Coningsby together where they got a chance to see - and even sit in - historic aircraft, as well as meet the teams behind them. The most striking thing about the visit, however, was how grown up the young Prince looked, especially given how much he's grown. Standing beside him mum for a photograph, the 13-year-old almost reached the same height as her, and the pair were co-ordinated in black trousers and suit jackets.

The location of Prince George's first visit was also particularly poignant given his dad, Prince William, is a trained RAF pilot. Following in his father's footsteps, Prince George was given the chance to climb inside one of the planes, and even his mum Kate had a go. A video compilation of the pair's day together was shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales' official instagram account, and showed Prince George and Kate chatting and laughing with service people as they conducted their visit.

Alongside the video, a caption explained that the pair undertook the engagement in order to honour 'Service and Sacrifice' on Armed Forces Day. It explained the royals had 'spent with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby' where they had been 'learning about the extraordinary history of these aircraft and meeting the pilots and engineers who keep their legacy alive.'

The post described the visit as 'a powerful reminder of the courage, skill and dedication of those who serve, past and present,' and ended with a message of thanks to 'all those who have served and continue to serve.'

Following the Armed Forces Day video, Kate shared two personal posts which revealed a surprise challenge she had undertaken. On Sunday, The Princess revealed she had completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in 24 hours.

The Princess explained that she wanted to raise awareness around the impact, treatment and recovery of cancer, including holistic approaches to healthcare, as well as promoting the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The Princess was treated at The Royal Marsden Hospital, so it's an organisation 'very dear' to her, she said in a rare direct-to-camera video (above).
