There’s officially a teenager in the Wales’ household, as Prince George turns 13 years old today (Wednesday 22 July). To mark the milestone occasion, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a brand-new, never-before-seen portrait of Prince George looking so grown-up – and we couldn’t help but notice a family resemblance.
In the photograph, you can see the likeness between Prince George and his late grandmother, Princess Diana, especially as they have an almost identical nose. Prince George has also inherited the same blonde hair as his grandmother, which Prince William was also known for in his younger years.
In the image, Prince George stands looking directly into the camera in a black blazer and suit trousers, with his hands in his pockets. He wears a crisp white shirt but without a tie, for a slightly more relaxed formal look.
Sharing a new image to mark their children’s birthdays has become a tradition for the Prince and Princess of Wales, which was even accompanied by a video, as we saw for Prince Louis’ birthday. While Prince Louis’ birthday footage appeared to be more candid, with him grinning up at the camera while on a boat trip, Prince George’s portrait was a much formal set-up. This marks his transition to a teenager and a shift to a more mature period of his life, particularly being second in line to the throne.
Only a few weeks ago, Prince George attended his first official engagement at RAF Coningsby to mark Armed Forces Day, alongside his mum, the Princess of Wales. Turning 13 also represents a life milestone when it comes to the Prince’s education, as it signals a move to a new school. From September, Prince George will board at Eton College, following in his dad’s footsteps, as he also attended in his teen years.
The new portrait was shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account and via ‘Stories’, with tens of thousands of likes gained within minutes. Many people rushed to the comments to wish the prince a happy 13th birthday, with some saying they couldn’t believe how fast he’s grown up.
