If you’re itching to get back into the courtroom after devouring Nicola Walker’s hit series The Split, which follows married divorce lawyers navigating their divorce, we’ve got your next binge session sorted. The Killing Kind is the flawless legal thriller that’ll grip you from the start and, dare we say, it’s as good as The Split.

Based on the book by Jane Casey, the series introduces us to an impressive lawyer, Ingrid Lewis (Emma Appleton), who’s struggling to keep it all together when an ex-client, John Webster, turned lover and stalker returns to her life and starts to wreak havoc. But, when her best friend is murdered in a hit-and-run, could John help her find the culprit?

With the series available to stream now on ITVX, here’s everything you need to know about The Killing Kind, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

The six-part series, which first aired on Paramount+ in 2023, centres on a hotshot defence barrister, Ingrid Lewis (Emma Appleton), who helped exonerate a powerful businessman, John Webster (Colin Morgan) from stalking charges years earlier. Ingrid and John shared a romantic relationship, but John turned obsessive – and started following her.

Ingrid thinks she’s escaped John’s clutches and is on the right path to rebuilding her life, when her stalker returns and a shock hit-and-run kills her friend and colleague, Belinda (Sara Powell). Ingrid’s instinct tells her there’s more to the incident than a tragic mistake. She’s determined to prove that John is behind Belinda’s death, but somehow the evidence doesn’t stack up. Meanwhile, she’s targeted at a law event when someone tampers with her files so she ends up showcasing an explicit video to the audience, rather than her presentation.

As the series unfolds, the cat-and-mouse chase escalates and is full of unpredictable twists and turns. From a house fire in Ingrid’s past that killed the woman with whom her ex-partner, Mark (Elliot Barnes-Worrell) was having an affair, to a cryptic postcard and a kidnapping… But will Ingrid find out what happened to her friend? And will she ever be free of John’s extreme obsession?
