What is Bergerac about?

The original 1980s series ran for a decade with John Nettles starring as the show’s lead, the troubled eponymous detective Jim Bergerac, who solved crimes across the scenic isle of Jersey. The much-loved series was rebooted in 2025, with The Split’s Damien Molony taking over. Damien inherited Bergerac’s trademarks – such as his red Triumph Roadster and alcohol problems, but the modern-day remake has proven to be darker and follows a new formula of one case per series – meaning there’s more time for in-depth developments and details!

The first series follows Bergerac as he returns to work after his wife’s death, he must solve the murder of Cate Wakefield, the daughter-in-law of Jersey businessman Arthur Wakefield, which propels them into a web of other related crimes. In series 2, a romance blossoms for Bergerac as he meets Nicola (Camilla Beeput), and he investigates the killing of local businessman Tony Sallinger.

Series 3 promises to be “the most shocking case yet”, and the six episodes will follow the detective as he works on a suspicious death, but, his only lead will link to Jersey’s most notorious cold case – the Devil’s Hole murder. The detective must delve into the past to uncover a satanic cabal that ripples through the heart of the Channel Island’s society…

What to read next

Meanwhile, the series will be a personal chapter for Bergerac, as his daughter, Kim (Chloé Sweetlove) leaves Jersey for college, he meets the down-to-earth physiotherapist, Laura (Georgia Tennant) - we can only hope he will have finally met his match! But, sadly, it isn't all good news for the family, as Jim’s mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Zoë Wanamaker) faces a home intruder, which has catastrophic consequences.
