If you’ve worked your way through Hannah Waddingham’s dazzling performances in shows such as Ted Lasso and Ride Or Die and are on the hunt for something else to fill the Waddingham-shaped hole in your television schedule, we’ve unearthed her most overlooked performance: The Fall Guy. The 10/10 drama sees her take on a villainous role as scheming Hollywood producer Gail Meyer – and its genius plot makes for ridiculously fun viewing.

The film follows Ryan Gosling as jaded stuntman Colt Seavers, who walks away from his career after a catastrophic on-set accident. Over a year later, Gail (Waddingham) attempts to lure him back to work under false pretences, and what unfolds is an exhilarating ride packed with brilliant stunts, epic chases and a bonkers conspiracy.

Intrigued? With the drama available to watch now, here’s everything you need to know about The Fall Guy, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

The action-packed drama, which first hit the big screen in 2024, follows disillusioned stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), who breaks his back while performing on set. After the injury, he abandons both his career, as a double for Hollywood star Tom Ryder, and his director girlfriend, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt).

18 months later, Colt is working as a valet for a Mexican restaurant when he receives a call from manipulative producer Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham), who persuades him to join the movie production in Australia by telling him that Jody asked for him to join her directorial debut, a space opera called Metalstorm (yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds!).

But when he arrives in Sydney, he learns that Gail has lied and there’s a bigger challenge at hand – Tom Ryder has disappeared, putting the already over-budget production in jeopardy. Colt reluctantly agrees to track him down, but his search takes him on an outlandish mission into an increasingly bizarre conspiracy…

Hannah Waddingham previously spoke about playing the villain, Gail. ‘I mean, she’s revolting,’ she told Today. ‘I love leaning into why revolting characters are how they are and loving them for it, you know?’ she added.

Is The Fall Guy any good?

Universal

Yes – while it’s not the most demanding plot, its genius lies in it being endless joyous escapism, while also poking fun at Hollywood clichés. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt have electric chemistry, with their ‘will they, won’t they?’ plotline every bit as entertaining as the explosions and car chases. Hannah Waddingham steals the show as the increasingly outrageous Gail – her delivery of her cutting one-liners and how she conducts her crazy schemes is nothing short of brilliant.
