Sometimes all it takes is an actor’s name on the cast list to convince us to watch a series, and Olivia Colman has that power over us. From her hysterical performance in Wicked Little Letters, to her unforgettable portrayal of DS Ellie Miller in Broadchurch, she’s endlessly watchable. Now she’s landed the perfect new role in Only Murders In The Building series 6 – and the new mystery promises to be even better than Broadchurch.
Hulu’s hit murder mystery comedy follows unlikely sleuthing trio: Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) who start their own true-crime podcast after a suspicious death in their swanky New York apartment building. Since then, the series has attracted huge names – from Meryl Streep to Paul Rudd. Now, their detective work is taking them across the pond for the first time ever – with London becoming the backdrop to their latest riveting whodunnit.
Intrigued? With production for the series underway now, here’s everything you need to know about Only Murders In The Building series 6 including the plot, cast and how to watch it.
What is Only Murders In The Building about?
The murder mystery Only Murders In The Building, which first aired on Hulu in 2021, follows three true-crime obsessed strangers living in the glamorous Arconia apartment building on New York’s Upper West Side. Forming the team are: semi-retired actor Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and young artist Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez). When resident Tim Kono is found dead, the trio begin to investigate – and share their findings on a true crime podcast. However, as they untangle the mystery, it becomes apparent deeply buried secrets lurk within their four walls – and a killer could live among them…
Four further series tracing a different compelling mystery, with series 2 uncovering the death of Arconia’s board president, Bunny Folger – which the trio is initially framed for! Series 3 sees Oliver returning to Broadway with his new play, but disaster strikes when the lead star is murdered. In series 4, Charles’ longtime stunt double is murdered and series 5 begins with the suspicious death of Arconia’s doorman.
What will happen in Only Murders In The Building series 6?
Now, the trio are going international for the first time ever as they land in London for a brand-new mystery. Series 6 picks up from series 5’s cliffhanger finale when rival podcaster Cinda Canning (Tina Fay) becomes embroiled in a case involving the death of a royal descendant.
Series creator, John Hoffman, hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that the next chapter will honour the origin of the entire detective genre as they enter the world of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle.
Fittingly, Oliver, Charles and Mabel will be joined by a fantastic mix of British and Irish stars. A short Instagram clip shows Meryl Streep and Selena Gomez welcoming Olivia Colman on set, and she’s joining: Geri Halliwell-Horner, Martin Freeman, Jamie Demetriou and Sir Derek Jacobi. Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan and Simone Ashley are also joining the cast, as well as Rhea Norwood, Lesley Nicol, Kathryn Hunter and Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker.

What other murder mysteries can I watch now?
If you’re looking for another spot of escapism, we’d recommend High Seas. The series revolves around two sisters, Eva and Carolina, who board a ship setting sail from Spain to Brazil in the 1940s. But behind the decadent façade are a series of mystifying murders they’re left to unravel. You can watch High Seas now on Netflix. For something darker, we’d suggest the BBC’s And Then There Were None, a dark Agatha Christie adaptation starring Anna Maxwell Martin. The drama follows ten strangers find themselves arriving at a so-called retreat on an isolated island off the Devon coast in 1939. When a storm arrives and cuts them off from civilisation – the trip turns very sinister. You can watch And Then There Were None now on BBC iPlayer.
