If you’ve already devoured all of Harlan Coben’s brilliantly unpredictable back catalogue from Stay Close to The Five and need another mind-bending mystery to sink your teeth into, we bring good news. Channel 4’s Walter Presents is filling the thriller void in our lives with No Time For Goodbye, a compulsive new crime series coming this week. And, with its eerie setting, perplexing central mystery and copious red herrings – it’s even better than a Harlan Coben thriller.
The four-part French series, which first aired in Belgium in 2024 as Cette Nuit-là transports us to September 2001, a time where the world was reeling from the 9/11 attacks. In a secluded mountainous village, 15-year-old Sofia Legrand (Barbara Probst) wakes up after a huge row with her family to find that her parents and brother have vanished without a trace. Two decades later, Sofia decides to restart her search – but when her son and daughter start to question her sanity, and the investigation endangers those closest to her – how far is she willing to go for answers?
With the series available to stream this week, here’s everything you need to know about No Time For Goodbye, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.
What is No Time For Goodbye about?
Based on the bestselling 2007 novel by Linwood Barclay, the drama, which first aired in 2024, tells the twisty tale of 15-year-old Sofia Legrand (Barbara Probst) who wakes up one morning after an explosive row with her family. She sneaks out with her boyfriend then returns to an inexplicably empty house in their secluded mountain village. Her mother, father and brother have all vanished without a trace but the incident coincides with 9/11 – meaning her case is overshadowed by the attacks and receives little attention from the police and the media.
More than 20 years later, we meet Sofia again, who appears to be at peace and settled with a husband, Damién (Pascal Elbé) and teenage daughter Zoé (Fantine Harduin). However, her missing family still haunts her and she publishes a book about the case. She also joins forces local journalist Arnaud Fresnel (Hugo Becker) to reopen the investigation.
As they delve deeper, Sofia is certain her brother is still alive but increasingly disturbing discoveries about her father reveal he was hiding a dark double life. Strange threats and violent attacks start to threaten her life and those around her, while her daughter and husband are convinced she’s slipping into obsessive paranoia. Sofia learns she has a sinister enemy who’s determined to get revenge. As danger gets ever closer to her family, will she finally discover what happened to her family, and will her current loved ones be spared?

What other crime dramas can I watch now?
For a sleek crime drama set in the past, Peaky Blinders fans will adore The Long Firm, which tells the story of Harry Starks (Mark Strong), an unconventional gangster operating in the murky underworld of 1960s London. Each episode is told through the eyes of different characters who encounter him during his meteoric rise and fall. All episodes of The Long Firm are available to watch now on U. For something cosier, we’d recommend the hysterical Bad Monkey, which takes us to Florida and follows dysfunctional former detective Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), whose suspension from the police force leads him to taking a job as a health inspector. Determined to get his career back, he begins to investigate the discovery of a severed arm – which leads him to uncover a wide-reaching criminal conspiracy. Bad Monkey is available to watch now on Apple TV.
