Well, it begins. The new season of the Great British Bake Off is officially arriving on our screens from Tuesday 22 September (only a few more weeks to wait) and with that news comes Nigella fashion watch.
While for the initial promos of the new season and at the premiere last night, new judge Nigella Lawson followed one simple fashion rule in belted jumpsuits, a new photo from an upcoming episode shows the cook straying from her formula in favour of a classic linen blazer and jeans ensemble.
In the preview photo, Nigella stands alongside long-term judge Paul Hollywood. Rather than the sharp jumpsuits we’ve seen so far, Nigella has combined a few timeless staples to create an outfit anyone can copy – and one that’ll look great on everyone. Along with a pair of simple indigo jeans, Nigella opted for a linen waistcoat worn as a top, plus the matching linen blazer. It’s a fun twist on a three-piece suit that feels smart but not too uptight.
We’re not sure of the specific brand of the waistcoat and blazer Nigella’s wearing, but the good news is that a linen blazer is such a forever must-have that there are plenty of similar options on the high street. Our pick? A linen-blend blazer from M&S for just £42. The composition of Lyocell with a touch of linen means you’ll still get that breezy linen effect, but without such a high likelihood of ending up a wrinkled mess the moment you leave the house.
Wear it like Nigella, with your go-to jeans, or as a final layer over a dress for this strange in-between weather we’re having. The neutral colour makes this blazer go with absolutely everything, and its classic shape means it’ll always be in style. Think of it as an alternative to the trench coat when it comes to effortless transitional dressing.
At the launch event for the new season of GBBO, Paul told journalists that Nigella ‘fitted in beautifully’, while early reviews have praised Nigella’s new role. Nigella herself added: ‘It’s such a lovely atmosphere, and the four of us get on very well.’
With the first episode date confirmed and profiles of the contestants released, it’s all go on the Bake Off front. We’ll be spending the ensuing days picking our favourites to win and making a Nigella innuendo bingo card.
