It's back to school season for many families across the UK, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, who walked their oldest son, Prince George, to his first day at his new school. The Princess of Wales was all smiles despite the rain, as she proudly headed across the grounds of Eton College alongside her son.
On (Tuesday 8 September), the Prince and Princess of Wales walked Prince George in personally for his first day at Eton College. It may have been pouring with rain, but the weather wasn't enough to dampen the spirits of the proud parents as they prepared to drop off their eldest with his new teachers. The scene will be familiar to many parents doing the same this week.
Headmaster Simon Henderson and provost Nicholas Coleridge were waiting outside the school 'gates' to greet the family, and were photographed shaking hands with Prince William before heading inside.
For the occasion, Prince George was suited and booted in a smart navy blazer and trousers with a crisp white shirt and tie, matching his dad, Prince William, almost exactly. The day is likely to have felt nostalgic for Prince William, as he attended Eton College himself as a teenager. Now bringing his son to the same school is a full circle moment.
Prince George aged out of his former prep school at 13 years old, leading to a thorough search for the best place to continue his education. The Prince and Princess of Wales eventually settled on Eton, which is situated in Windsor, not too far from the family home. While Prince George had the option to occasionally board at his previous school, Eton is a full-board school, meaning he'll be staying there overnight as standard.
Prince George's new move will mean a big shift for the Wales household, with the oldest child absent on weekday evenings and the busy morning school run with his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. However, being within easy reach of home makes regularly visits easier – just like Prince William used to nip to Windsor Castle to visit his granny at weekends, while he was studying at the same institution.
Best of luck to Prince George!
