If you’re planning to spend some time in front of the TV this October, we should warn you: there’s a lot of unmissable TV in store. A whole host of great shows are coming our way, which means you’re likely to be spending rather a lot of time on the sofa this month.
From Stephen Graham’s best crime drama yet to The Affair’s new rival and Sienna Miller’s new divorce drama, we’ve rounded up 9 must-see shows that are worth every minute of your time. So, grab the remote and enjoy our pick of the very best shows coming to ITV, Netflix, the BBC and more.
The Celebrity Traitors
The (super!) star-studded second series of The Celebrity Traitors is finally here! Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Jerry Hall, Richard E. Grant and Julie Hesmondalgh are among the big names entering the castle and, according to insiders, we can expect more betrayal than ever. The BBC’s director of entertainment, Ed Harvard, has said of the new series: “I really wanted to step in and go, ‘no one is actually being murdered.’ I don't want to give too much away, but there are tears in this series.” Arriving on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Thursday 1st October.
Kill Jackie
There’s no such thing as too many revenge thrillers and Kill Jackie has everything you want from one – and more. Catherine Zeta-Jones leads the cast as Jackie Price, a former cocaine dealer who's escaped a dangerous past and spent the last 20 years trying to stay anonymous. So far, so straightforward. But it seems her past is about to catch up with her in spectacular fashion - and the consequences could well be fatal. Arriving on Prime Video on Friday 2nd October.
War
Sky is gifting us with the arrival of an explosive new legal drama and it’s got quite the cast. Set in the high-stakes world of two of London’s most prestigious rival law firms, Dominic Cooper plays Morgan Henderson, while Sienna Miller is his estranged wife, international film star Carla Duval. As the pair go head-to-head in a truly scandalous divorce case, each side is absolutely certain they'll win – but only one can. Arriving on Sky Atlantic on Friday 2nd October.
Adultery
If you enjoyed The Affair, Adultery is coming to give it some competition. The relationship drama will introduce us to young lovers Jess and Ollie, who are in the throes of young love - but when their parents meet, it seems there’s another attraction forming, a forbidden one with potentially devastating consequences. “There’s a psychological equation. It says that ‘attraction plus an obstacle equals excitement,'” reads the ITV teaser. “But what happens if the attraction is too strong, if the obstacles are too great. What then? Do you threaten everything?” Adultery will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX this October.
What to read next
Pierre
David Harewood fans, this one’s for you! The Sherwood star steps into the shoes of the titular Pierre, a charming duty solicitor in London, who’s barely keeping his head above water financially, while also dealing with a fractious personal life. Despite his setbacks, he’s a bright, passionate lawyer – and when he begins looking into the mysterious death of a young client, he finds himself uncovering a maze of institutional corruption. Pierre will premiere on Channel 4 at 9pm on Monday 5th October.
Anna Pigeon
The brilliant detective drama has already been a hit with viewers across the pond and introduces us to national park ranger Anna Pigeon (Tracy Spiridakos), who leaves her city slicker life behind in an attempt to escape her past. These days, her focus is on solving crimes that have taken place within national park grounds - and it seems she won't let anyone - or anything - get in the way of doing so. Anna Pigeon will premiere on Tuesday 6th October at 8pm on U&Drama.
Animals
Gillian Anderson and Ben Affleck are the “perfect” couple in this new crime thriller – but it’s all about to come crashing down. You see, Milo Bradford (Affleck) is an LA mayoral candidate and when his son, Milo, is kidnapped, he and his wife have a matter of hours to come up with a ransom payment. With all their money spent on Milo’s political campaign, their desperate bid to find it will take them to some very dark places indeed. Animals will premiere on Netflix on Friday 9th October.
The Party
Elizabeth Day’s 2017 novel is coming to the small screen and it’s going to be something very special. The story follows the reunion of two former elite boarding school students, Martin Gilmour (Luke Evans) and Ben Fitzmaurice (Tom Cullen), at a lavish 40th birthday party in a country manor. Martin is now a journalist, while Ben is a politician and their reunion sparks a confrontation that neither could have prepared themselves for. The Party will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday 11th October.
Nocturne
Stephen Graham’s best crime drama yet is coming! We’re about to see his seriously creepy side as Jurek Walter, a cunning serial killer who wreaks havoc on a small Pennsylvanian town. Jonah Lynn (Liev Schreiber) is the former soldier turned detective who finds that he and his family are Jurek’s latest target and he must do whatever it takes to protect everything he holds dear. But just how far will he go? Nocturne will premiere on Apple TV on Friday 30th October.
