Oh, what’s occurring? Well, our favourite ever television double-act are coming back for an exciting new series. If, like us, you haven’t been able to stop thinking about Nessa and Smithy since Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, Ruth Jones and James Corden are giving us another story to fall in love with. The duo are reuniting for an emotional new sitcom and the perfect Gavin & Stacey replacement –The Choir.

The series, which is set to air in 2027, will follow Ruth and James, but this time they’re not lovers – they’re estranged brother and sister, Lisa and Ben. The siblings have spent years apart after James swapped their small hometown for a life abroad. But when events take a sorry turn, Ben is forced to face their fractured relationship and the pair come together in the most unlikely setting – the struggling local choir.

Excited for the biggest reunion in television? With the series available to stream soon, here’s everything you need to know about The Choir, including the cast, plot and how to watch it.

The upcoming eight-part series about family, friendship, love and music will unite Ruth Jones and James Corden. This time, they’re playing siblings Lisa (Ruth) and Ben (James) – who aren't on the best of terms. Ben fled their small hometown for a life abroad, while Lisa stayed behind – and the pair haven’t seen each other in years.

However, an unexpected event leads Ben to come back. He’s estranged from his family and resents the mundanity of living somewhere where nothing ever happens. But can the brother and sister put their differences behind them? The key to repairing their relationship might lie somewhere unexpected – in their struggling local choir, whose members sing their hearts out every week.

Joining Ruth and James is a whole host of starry cast members, from James McAvoy to Rivals' Gary Lamont. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham will also make a guest appearance, and we dare say she'll have the chance to show off her incredible singing voice.

For another emotional series, try MotherFatherSon. This series follows Helen McCrory as the estranged wife to a millionaire media mogul (played by Richard Gere), but when their son has a life-altering stroke, everything changes. MotherFatherSon is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. For a touching film about family and friendship, we’d suggest Mike Leigh’s Another Year. The saga follows married couple Tom (Jim Broadbent) and Gerri (Ruth Sheen) and their surrounding circle over the course of one year. Lesley Manville is brilliant as the couples’ friend Mary whose loneliness leads her to act out and distance herself from her support network. You can watch Another Year now on Prime Video.
