Why is it being recalled?

Per the release, these products are being recalled as the milk powder used may be contaminated with Salmonella.

"The recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that provides a seasoning blend used in our 5-cheese sauce blend," the company explained. "To date, neither Champion Foods LLC nor our suppliers have received any reports of illness or injury related to these products."

The issue with the milk powder was found via routine testing conducted by California Dairies, Inc. However, Champion Foods LLC noted that testing "prior to use in the production of the 5 Cheese Bread showed that the seasoning batches tested negative for Salmonella; however, we are taking action out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers."

What other products are being recalled as part of this California Dairies, Inc. issue?

According to the Food and Drug Administration's enforcement report, California Dairies, Inc. has recalled more than 2.6 million pounds of two types of milk powder. It was used in several products that have since been recalled, including Utz's Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips, Blackstone Parmesan Ranch, and Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons.

What should I do if I have this cheese bread in my freezer?

The brand stated, "If you are a consumer who purchased one of the recalled lots listed above, please do not consume it." Customers can use the contact form on the Champion Foods website or reach out directly to the company at [email protected] for more information.
