- In July, FDA recalled Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce after cyclospora parasite outbreak sickened people across multiple states.
- In August, 345 people across 27 states infected with Salmonella Javiana linked to jalapeños from Coast Citrus Distributors sold nationwide.
- Taylor Farms recalled 16+ jalapeño-containing products sold at major retailers including Kroger, Walmart, Target, and Whole Foods through August 16, 2026.
The summer of 2026 hasn’t been great for produce fans. First, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall notice of iceberg lettuce in July from the company Taylor Farms due to a multistate outbreak of a GI illness linked to the parasite cyclospora. The FDA next reported that as of August 5, 345 people across 27 states have been infected with Salmonella Javiana, an outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. Now, additional products containing jalapeños have been recalled—and you may have bought them at Hannaford, Kroger, Stop and Shop, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, or Whole Foods.
What’s more, on August 9, the FDA published a new company recall announcement from Taylor Farms, recalling its products that contain jalapeños. Taylor Farms began this recall because it sourced its jalapeños from Coast Citrus Distributors, but has stopped doing so. Still, the salmonella risk remains. The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are investigating a multi-state outbreak of salmonella linked to these jalapeños.

- kids under 5, and especially infants under a year old
- adults over 50 with underlying conditions like heart disease
- people with weakened immune systems
- anyone over 65
Symptoms to watch out for include:
- watery diarrhea that could contain blood or mucus
- stomach cramps
- headache
- nausea
- vomiting
- losing your appetite
You’ll start feeling the effects of a salmonella infection six hours to six days after ingesting the bug, and you can feel sick from four days to a week. Salmonella can be serious, so contact your doctor right away if:
- you vomit or have diarrhea for more than two days
- your stool is bloody
