R.J. Decker fans, we have some things to talk about.

The season 2 finale aired on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, on ABC, and we need to know what’s next for our favorite private investigator. The show follows R.J. (Scott Speedman), a South Florida PI who takes on cases that range from odd to outright bizarre. The supporting cast includes Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adelaide Clemens, Kevin Rankin, Bevin Bru, and more.

Naturally, fans will want to see more of the hit drama. But now that the season 2 finale has aired, there won’t be any new episodes for a while.

When will R.J. Decker return?

As of now, ABC hasn’t confirmed whether R.J. Decker will come back for season 3. But since ABC aired seasons 1 and 2 in 2026, there’s a chance R.J. Decker could return with new episodes in early 2027.

What was the R.J. Decker season 2 finale about?

According to an official press release from ABC, the season 2 finale, titled “Before You Accuse Me,” saw Emi hire R.J. to investigate the murder of a police officer. This was supposed to help exonerate a man who was wrongly accused of the crime, leading to a super-sensitive case that sees R.J. at odds with Mel.

Why did R.J. Decker season 2 only include seven episodes?

When fans emailed TV Insider about the number of episodes for R.J. Decker season 2, writer Matt Roush had a theory.

“Whether R.J. Decker returns or not, Season 2 was always designed to be this short, and this isn’t a case of canceling it mid-flight with episodes left unseen,” he wrote in an article published on October 27. “But such a short episode order naturally raises red flags regarding the network’s belief in the series, although this decision was more likely made for economic and possibly programming reasons.”

Looks like we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for what’s next!
