A top and trouser two piece seems like a dangerously sticky game when it comes to dressing in balmy weather. But when crafted from linen, it's a great (and chic) way to keep cool, and will actually keep your legs shielded from UV rays – depending on how thick the weave is, of course.
So, combine that with some of the chicest fashion trends of the season, and you've got yourself a rather stylish co-ord that will see you through scorching temperatures and commutes where being packed like a sardine is a given. The best set I've seen? I came across it on a recent trip to Zara, consisting of a halter top and a pair of floaty wide leg trousers, both designed in cooling flax fabric.
But it's not just your regular two piece set, and that's all thanks to the design of each piece. Instead of just being two floaty staples that are baggy enough to keep you ventilated during sweltering temperatures (be that on UK soil or on holiday abroad), they feature some pretty considered detailing. The top, for instance, nails the asymmetric trend every fashionable woman has started to lean towards this season, with chic hanky style neck detailing and side pleats at the waist for a cinched look.
As for the trousers? I'd like to think they combine two trends in one. At first glance, they're wide leg - a popular, chic silhouette that I myself have developed something of a dependency on - but they also feature drawstring detailing at the ankles. Pull them tight, and the trousers transform into something more reminiscent of balloon styles, but in a way that feels actually wearable.
For daytime holiday wear, pair them with chic sandals featuring gold hardware detailing on the toe - aka toe ring sandals. For the evening, add some height to your silhouette and wear them with sleek leather flip flop heels.
