Now that chilly mornings have well and truly arrived, I've started to swap out my thinner staples for something softer and far cosier. My lightweight cardigans are now being replaced by heavier wool knits, and cosy jackets have came to the forefront of my clothing rotation.
But don't fret: dresses are still very much on the agenda, they just need that autumnal update that will keep me warm once the temperature truly starts to plummet.
And unless you're new here, you'll know there's one fabric I always recommend when the temperatures start to drop, and that's corduroy. Soft, plush and naturally insulating, it makes getting dressed on crisp autumn mornings far easier. Naturally, it's Next that has already jumped on the trend, first with skirts, then with trousers, and now dresses, as proven by a rather stylish mini.
Especially cosy, this dress will become your go to for the rest of the season. Featuring a tiered skirt and tie detailing at the front, you'll feel endlessly stylish without sacrificing warmth. It also comes with long sleeves which is great as an extra layer, too.
But, you'll quickly notice that soft cord isn't this dresses only appeal, because it also features polka dot detailing. The timeless motif has been reinvented for the season thanks to the corduroy fabric, proving that the dotted pattern works no matter what time of year it is.
The polka dot design is different from the regular monochromatic versions, too - it comes in brown with gold dotted details for a pop of colour that will look great come party season. For now though, wear for day to day errands with your favourite knee high boots, and when the cold weather really settles in pair with some sheer tights for a sleek look.
