It seems we simply can’t get enough of Italian food. In fact, Waitrose has reported that searches for Italian food have increased by 46% over the past year, making the supermarket’s latest celebrity food collaboration particularly exciting news.
Launching from today is the new Angela Hartnett with Waitrose range, a beautifully authentic collection of 12 Italian-inspired products spanning fresh pasta, sauces, focaccia and lasagne. We’ve already had the chance to try our way through some of the range, and it’s already gone straight to the top of the list of best supermarket food we've tried this month (and maybe even year!).
The collaboration marks Angela Hartnett’s first fresh supermarket range and has been developed with traditional Italian recipes, specialist suppliers and a strong focus on authenticity. The Slow-braised Pork & Beef Girasoli pasta in particular was a standout with its rich and meaty filling, and the perfectly al dente pasta was lovely and fresh. Plus the sunflower shape just puts a smile on our face. And you'll want to make sure you pick up the light and fluffy rosemary focaccia - made with a 24 hour long fermented dough, to mop up all those delicious sauces and oil.
The rest of the range includes Spinach, Ricotta & Parmigiano Reggiano Tortelli, Cacio e Pepe Ravioli, Butternut Squash & Sage Tortelli and Slow-braised Beef & Veal Quadratini, inspired by a recipe Angela has been making for more than 40 years.
Elsewhere in the collection, there’s fresh Spaghetti alla Chitarra, a generously layered Lasagna al Forno, two varieties of focaccia and a trio of sauces. The Fennel Sausage Ragù is likely to be one of the most popular, combining coarsely ground sausage, herbaceous fennel seeds and a rich tomato base for a deeply savoury sauce that clings beautifully to pasta.
What we love most about the range is how easy it makes creating a proper Italian dinner at home. Because all you really do need is quality products. A packet of fresh pasta, a proper good sauce, warm focaccia and a glass of wine to turn an ordinary Wednesday night into something that feels a little more special.
The range is available from today, 3 June in 202 Waitrose stores, online and via Waitrose on Uber Eats and Deliveroo, and right now it currently has 20% off the entire collection until 7 July!
