Grind has just launched one of the most unusual coffee flavours we've come across this year, and while the idea of miso coffee might initially sound a little odd, it turns out there's a very good reason why it works.
The coffee brand has unveiled two new limited-edition pod flavours for summer: Honey Nut and Sweet Miso. While the Honey Nut flavour is inspired by one of Grind's most popular café drinks, it's the Sweet Miso pods that immediately grabbed out attention.
Miso has been appearing in desserts for years now, from cookies and brownies to caramel sauces and our irresistible miso caramel and banana crumble recipe, thanks to its ability to add depth and balance sweetness. Coffee, it turns out, isn't all that different.
The new Sweet Miso pods combine speciality-grade coffee with caramelised sweetness and subtle savoury notes, creating a flavour profile that's far more complex than your average flavoured coffee. Having tried it ourselves, the first thing that stood out was the balance. There's a beautiful interplay between sweet and salty flavours, while the miso adds a rich, umami character that gives the coffee more body and complexity rather than making it taste overtly savoury.
Instead, it acts a bit like adding a pinch of sea salt to caramel. The result isn't salty coffee, but a more rounded, fuller flavour that lingers pleasantly after each sip.
For anyone who enjoys Asian-inspired desserts or has already jumped on the miso caramel trend, this feels like a natural next step. And we are big flavoured coffee fans here at GH, so this gets our tick of approval.

Alongside the Sweet Miso pods, Grind has also launched Honey Nut Pods, inspired by its cult-favourite Honey Nut Shaken Latte. Combining notes of golden honey and toasted nuts, they're designed to be served over ice and sound ideal for warmer weather.
Both flavours are available now from Grind's website and selected retailers, but it's the Sweet Miso pods that have us most intrigued. Sometimes the strangest flavour combinations turn out to be the best ones.
