One of the nation's favourite food debate is about to get even more complicated because McVitie's has flipped the table and decided to turn their iconic Jaffa Cakes.... into a cookie.
Just when we thought we'd seen every possible Jaffa-inspired spin-off, following the recent arrival of Jaffa Digestives, McVitie's has gone one step further and created a soft-baked cookie version that's closer to the original Jaffa Cake than anything else we've seen. And it looks to be a very subtle evolution of a Jaffa Cake, but likely way more enjoyable (sorry but we aren't big Jaffa Cake fans here).
The brand-new, soft-filled Jaffa cookies combine a soft-baked chocolate chip cookie with a tangy orange-flavoured centre and a generous half-coating of chocolate. We're particularly intrigued by the texture. And swapping the sponge for a soft, chewy cookie could make this feel much more indulgent (and better!), while still delivering that familiar chocolate-orange flavour combination we all love.
And the best part? Unlike the original Jaffa Cake, these actually sound like you can dunk them into a hot mug of tea or coffee. Which is really a big part of our judgement of how good a cookie is.
The new Jaffa Cookies are available now in Asda Express stores, ahead of a wider rollout to Asda stores nationwide from 25 June and other major supermarkets from 20 July.
