The weekend had come and gone, and I was craving something sweet but still a little refreshing to round it off. Enter my latest M&S food discovery: the Milk Chocolate & Speculoos Wafer Rolls. And when I tell you they're even better than a Biscoff biscuit, I really mean it.
I was originally craving those classic Caprice wafer rolls (you know, the ones you inevitably end up sticking into an ice cream cone), but I fancied something a little more indulgent this time, and these delivered exactly that.
Each crisp wafer roll is generously coated in a thick layer of smooth milk chocolate before being filled with the most incredible spiced speculoos spread. The balance is spot on. You get the delicate crunch of the wafer first, followed by a rich, warming hit of caramelised spice that's unmistakably Biscoff-esque, but somehow even more indulgent.
The real game changer, though? You have to keep them in the fridge. The chocolate firms up just enough to give a really satisfying snap, while the filling becomes almost fudge-like in texture. It still melts beautifully in your mouth, but with an extra richness that makes each bite feel even more luxurious. They retail for £2.75 for a 100g pack, but they are quite indulgent so you'll only need a few to feel satisfied.
They're dangerously moreish straight from the packet, but I also can't stop thinking about using them as an ice cream topping or crushing a few and mixing into vanilla ice cream. They'd even make a brilliant finishing touch to an iced coffee or affogato.
It's been a while since a supermarket snack has surprised me quite this much, but these have quietly become one of my favourite M&S finds of the year.
