Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is known for her serious causes, championing the rights of women across the world, and supporting charities and organisations working to change their situations. While much of The Duchess' work is more solemn than other members of The Royal Family, she is sometimes able to let her hair down a little more - and it seems she thoroughly enjoyed her latest visit.
Sophie has had a string of serious engagements recently, including a visit to Kenya recognising 'the role women play in preventing and resolving conflicts,' and to Somalia, 'to continue her work supporting survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in the region.' Her most recent visit, however, was much closer to home, in Northern Ireland and looks like it could have been her happiest of the year so far. While there, The Duchess was pictured having a joyful time, meeting local children and even a four-legged friend.
During her visit, The Duchess went to various different locations to meet a range of organisations. Sophie is Patron of the National Autistic Society and was on-site to open a new centre in Northern Ireland. During her visit, she 'heard from families about the support this special space will provide,' explained the Royal Family in an official post.
The post included a selection of photographs, the first of which featuring Sophie laughing and smiling with a group of children. Further along in the carousel of images, she can be seen grinning next to a shiny golden retriever. The Duchess if also Patron of Guide Dogs, so she met with volunteers who were celebrating four decades of the charity in Northern Ireland. Of course, Sophie had to say hello to some of the dogs as well!
In the images, The Duchess is holding what seems to fast becoming a favourite bag of her; the Sophie Habsburg 'Moneypenny' bag. We love the statement buckle which gives the bag a unique look while still feeling timeless but the best thing about this accessory? The variety of colour options - 13, to be precise. While Sophie's pick is the burgundy and gold option, there are many more to choose from including green, bugundry and suede, black and brown and gold.
While it's still available to buy online, it is a popular choice and is already selling out in many shades:
The Duchess of Edinburgh's busy trip also included visits to other local initiatives. These included Walkways Community Care, which encourages wellbeing and connection, and Randalstown Librarym where 'The Duchess met community groups and those who have taken part in a Women in Leadership Programme.'
