Imagine a plot that's as good as Bookish and Death Valley combined. If it sounds too good to be true, you'll be pleased to know it's not as You’re Killing Me is the new detective drama that delivers exactly tht. The charming series, which is coming our way via Acorn TV, sees a quiet New England town rocked by its first homicide case. And who better to solve it than bestselling novelist, Allie (Brooke Shields) and aspiring writer and podcaster Andi (Amalia Williamson)?

Thankfully, the pair, determined as they are to track down the person who killed a close friend, will also meet an actual detective named Jack (Tom Cavanagh) from the local police department. But with Jack also trying to find his feet having moved from the big city, it seems the trio are going to have their work cut out unraveling this murder mystery. The six-part series takes us to a quaint New England town where bestselling novelist, Allie (Brooke Shields), forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and podcaster Andi (Amalia Williamson) to find the killer of a close friend. We’ll also meet Jack (Tom Cavanagh), the new lead detective of the local police department and former city slicker who’s trying to adjust to the quirks of small-town life.

Judging by the first-look trailer, we can expect plenty of the humour as Allie and Andi work to solve what appears to be the first murder the town has seen. “This place was a sleepy little town”, one character says, before another adds: “We don’t do homicides here”.

Whether or not Brooke Shields’ Allie and Amalia Williamson's Andi will be able to solve the case in front of them remains to be seen. “I solve mysteries for a living”, Allie says in the trailer, before falling inelegantly through a window. And her closing remark? “I’ve never been handcuffed before… well, that’s not entirely true.”

Brooke, who previously starred in Hallmark’s Flower Shop Mysteries, says of the drama: “I’m overjoyed to collaborate once again with the incredible Robin Bernheim who has created two strong, smart women you want to root for within Allie & Andie. The writing and storytelling really resonate with me, and this is a project I’m not only proud of but a role I can’t wait to play.”

If you haven’t yet seen ITV’s Gone, it’s well worth catching up. Written by George Kay (Hijack), the series stars Eve Myles (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah. And her main suspect? Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly (David Morrissey), who vehemently denies any wrongdoing. You can watch Gone now on ITVX. For something a little cosier, try Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. The Agatha Christie-esque drama takes us back to the roaring 1920s where, despite the glamorous setting, there’s murder and mayhem aplenty. There's one woman, however, who’s going to solve it all and her name is Phryne Fisher, the unflappable detective who’s so glam that she even has a pearl-handled pistol. You can watch all three series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on U now.
