You can often tell the sign of a long-term couple by how well they know each other, and it seems that King Charles has been paying close attention to his wife of 20+ years, Queen Camilla. During an event for the King's Award for Enterprise, King Charles invited a select handful of businesses receiving the honour to Windsor Castle, and revealed his unique insight into her style. During a conversation there, he earned some serious 'husband points' by proving he knew specific details about exactly what type of shoes The Queen prefers to wear.
Shoe designer, founder and CEO of Sole Bliss, Lisa Kay, was invited to the castle on the day, and got chatting to The King. Queen Camilla owns 11 pairs of Lisa's shoes, which she's worn to more than 80 engagements, according to the brand. While discussing The Queen's love for the footwear with The King, Lisa says that he told her, 'You know, she particularly likes a heel that's not too narrow.' Lisa replied, 'Yes, Your Majesty - a block heel!' and said she was impressed with his knowledge.
'What struck me most was how well the King knows his wife's taste,' Lisa told GH exclusively. 'He didn't just know she liked our shoes - he knew why. The fact that he could describe exactly what she likes, right down to the block heel, was remarkable. That's a man who pays close attention!'
As Sole Bliss are now launching a range for men, Lisa made sure to gauge King Charles' interest to see if he wanted a pair of his wife's shoes for himself, and says he seemed genuinely curious. 'When I told His Majesty about our plans for a men's collection, his interest was immediate,' Lisa told GH. 'He was genuinely engaged in understanding how our technology works - he clearly pays attention to what makes shoes comfortable. After all, he knows exactly why the Queen loves our block heels. Now we've launched what he asked for, and I suspect Queen Camilla will be the first to tell him to order a pair.'
Lisa also said that she met Dame Annabel Whitehead, the late Queen's former lady-in-waiting, at Windsor Castle, who told her that women throughout the Royal Household wear Sole Bliss shoes.
Meanwhile, Dame Mary Berry has previously revealed that she now wears the shoes herself, after Queen Camilla recommended them to her. Dame Joanna Lumley, Olivia Colman, Twiggy and even Julia Roberts are all reported to be fans of the footwear, designed to be comfortable for those with bunions, wide feet or sensitive soles of their feet.
