Looking for a new series to binge-watch? We’ve found just the thing thanks to our friends at Channel 4 and it goes by the name of Nordic Murders. If it sounds familiar, that’s because five brilliant series have already aired on Channel 4 but, happily, a sixth instalment has just been added to its streaming service. The endlessly thrilling series is one of Channel 4’s most watched overseas shows and it’s so good it rivals some of the very best crime dramas going.
To give you a taster, the story revolves largely around Karin Lossow (Katrin Sass), a former district prosecutor in her 60s who ended up in prison for murdering her husband. In series one, she's finally released and she decides she certainly isn’t going to rest on her laurels. What does she do instead? Get involved in more criminal investigations instead, of course (thankfully, she's on the right side of the law this time).
With a whopping six series available to binge now, here’s everything you need to know about Nordic Murders before you get started, including the full plot, cast and where to watch it.
What is Nordic Murders about?
The crime drama, which first aired in Germany in 2014, is set on the island of Usedom in Germany and introduces us to Karin Lossow (Katrin Sass), a 60-something former district prosecutor, who’s been released from prison. Why was she there? Because she murdered her husband using a gun belonging to her police commissioner daughter Julia (Lisa Marie Potthoff).
When she gets out, she has two ambitions. Firstly, make amends with her daughter and secondly, start investigating new crimes. Thankfully, she doesn’t go it alone with the latter and she often works alongside officials, including her nephew Reiner Witt (Till Firit), who just happens to be the head of the local police.
The most recent sixth series, which has just been added to Channel 4 streaming sees Karin experiencing haunting memories tied to her daughter’s past. Rainer is also back and he’s investigating a mysterious death when a body found on a snowy bench. And as more chilling cases unfold, personal demons and emotional come to the forefront once again.
