This Ridley Scott creation dramatises the last officially recognised judicial duel in France in spectacular fashion. Matt Damon plays Jean de Carrouges, who challenges his former friend, squire Jacques le Gris (Adam Driver) to fight to the death after Jean's wife, Marguerite (Jodie), accuses Jacques of raping her. It’s bold, brutal, and it’s not an exaggeration to say it will blow you away. Available to watch now on Disney+.

The End We Start From

Megan Hunter’s 2017 debut novel is brought to life in this moving drama about a new mother in crisis. The mother in question (played by Jodie) remains unnamed throughout, but finds herself fighting for survival as London is submerged by flood waters. The world is being destroyed by an environmental crisis, with the flood hitting just as the woman’s water breaks and the result is a haunting film that feels scarily realistic. Available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

The Bikeriders

Far from her role as Killing Eve's psychopathic villain, this 1960s-set film stars Jodie as the strong-willed Kathy Bauer, the wife of hot-headed Vandals motorcycle club leader Benny (Austin Butler). The drama, which was first released in 2023, plays out a fictionalised version of the real-life Chicago Outlaws, documenting the four years photojournalist Danny Lyons spent following them and it makes for fascinating viewing. As you’ll see when you watch it, Jodie adopted a 1960s Chicago accent for the part - and she absolutely nails it. Available to watch now on Prime Video.

Inspector George Gently

UKTV

You probably didn’t expect Inspector George Gently to be on this list, but one of Jodie’s early roles was, in fact, in the beloved detective drama. Her appearance comes in series 6 (you’ll need to look for the episode called Blue for Bluebird), in which she plays Justine Leyland, the best friend of a girl who’s found murdered at a 1960s holiday camp. Interestingly, Pixie Lott also stars in it as holiday camp entertainer Megan Webb and both their performances are well worth checking out. Available to watch now on Netflix.

Free Guy

20th Century Studios

While Jodie has said she wasn’t quite satisfied with her performance in 2021 film, Free Guy, we think she did a stellar job. Ryan Reynolds plays Guy, a bank teller who, much to his dismay, discovers he’s actually a background character in a video game called Free City. Millie Rusk (Jodie) is both a video game developer and has a dual role as in-game avatar, Molotov Girl– but she soon becomes both Guy’s accomplice and his love interest. Expect an action-packed film that doesn’t leave a second for boredom. Available to watch now on Disney+.

England is Mine

One for biopic fans, this fantastic drama portrays the early career of young, introverted vocalist Steven Morrissey (played by Jack Lowden) in 1970s Manchester before he became the frontman of '80s band The Smiths. Steven is frustrated with his dull job at a tax office, where Jodie’s character, Christine, also works, and their relationship is fascinating to watch. "She's very narrow-minded and doesn't think before she speaks,” Jodie has said of her character. “And he's this serious guy into all this weird music. She takes a shine to him, but he can't stand her really." Available to watch now on Prime Video.

Vera

ITV

Didn’t spot Jodie’s character in Vera? We don’t blame you, but it is worth discovering. You’ll find her in series 3, episode 1 as the grieving girlfriend of Gideon Frane (Darragh Horgan). Gideon was an extreme sports fanatic and he was last seen by a group of campers jumping into the lake while on fire. And, of course, there’s only one person who can find out what happened – Brenda Blethyn’s Vera. Available to watch now on ITVX.
