“The next TV superhit”: Harlan Coben’s new Netflix series Myron Bolitar is his most “nerve-wracking” yet

If it feels like it’s been too long since you had something absolutely brilliant to watch, Harlan Coben is here to sort it out. The king of plot twists is about to deliver the next TV superhit in the form of Myron Bolitar, his latest Netflix thriller which is, by his own admission, his most nerve-wracking yet.

Why? Because the author is bringing one of his favourite characters to the small screen - Myron Bolitar - the former NBA basketball star turned sports agent and amateur detective who's appeared in no less than 12 novels. “Myron is my heart, and I'm very nervous about that series”, he told Jessie and Lennie Ware on the Table Manners podcast last year.

What is Myron Bolitar about?

The new series will be based on Harlan’s popular Myron Bolitar novel series, which began with 1995’s Deal Breaker. Myron has gone on to appear in 12 of Coben’s novels, so it’s hardly surprising the author is so attached to him.

So, who is Myron Bolitar? Well, he's an NBA player whose dreams of becoming a basketball superstar have been shattered due to an injury. Instead, Myron reinvents himself as a sports agent and uses his charm and the help of a ruthless partner to navigate the high-stakes and dirty world of sports. And his new job means he becomes something of an accidental detective.

Over the course of Harlan’s novels, Myron often finds himself saving his clients while risking himself. Think everything from blackmail attempts to murder - no matter what the job entails, he's an agent who simply gets the job done.

Are Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar books any good?

Yes, they’re absolutely brilliant. The mysteries are as strong as you’d expect from Harlan, but each of the stories are also filled with humour and heart, which make them all the more entertaining. Harlan told Deadline that Myron is his “most prized possession” and you’ll definitely get a sense of that if you give the books a read.

How can I watch Myron Bolitar?

Netflix hasn’t yet shared a release date for Myron Bolitar, but we do know that filming is currently underway in New York. As soon as we have a confirmed release date, we’ll share it here.

Are there any more Harlan Coben thrillers in the works?

Yes - Netflix also recently announced another Netflix series, The Woods, which is currently in production. The series will introduce us to top barrister and single father Paul ‘Cope’ Copeland (Tom Bateman), whose sister disappeared from summer camp 20 years ago. While, life has, in many ways, moved on since then, the mystery is about to come back to haunt everyone involved. Excitingly, Michelle Keegan, who previously appeared in Fool Me Once, will also star in the series.

What other Harlan Coben series can I watch now?

If you didn’t catch Run Away when it premiered earlier this year, it’s a good place to start. The series stars James Nesbitt as Simon, who appears to have the perfect life until his eldest daughter, Paige, runs away. Expect twists - and family secrets - aplenty! You can watch Run Away now on Netflix. We’d also recommend Lazarus. Sam Claflin plays forensic psychologist Laz, who returns to his family home after his father (Bill Nighy)’s death and begins to have disturbing experiences he can’t explain.
