They may be a part of the extended Royal Family, but Prince Harry and Meghan proved they're just like any other couple when it comes to quirky interests which they've bonded over through their relationship. During the celebrations for their wedding anniversary this week, the couple revealed that there's one particular animal which has become a symbol of their relationship - and that they even dress up as in costume.
Tuesday 19 May marked eight years since Prince Harry and then Meghan Markle tied the knot at St George's Chapel, Windsor, with their ceremony broadcast to millions across the world. Since then, the couple have welcomed two children - Archie and Lilibet - and have relocated across the pond to California. To celebrate the memory of their special day, Prince Harry gifted his wife a lemon and elderflower cake (the same flavour as their wedding cake), as well as a special wooden statue in the shape of two animals.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Meghan shared a video of Prince Harry carrying in the lit cake before unveiling a carved pair of wooden penguins. The sculpture sat over an envelope with the words, 'The one and only' written over it, and a photograph of the couple in fancy dress.
The image appears to be a mirror selfie of the pair, taken by Prince Harry, revealing them dressed in penguin costumes. This with the gifted statue suggests the animal has a significant meaning to Prince Harry and Meghan in their relationship, and is a favourite costume to wear as well as symbol to them. This may be because penguins are known for choosing one partner and staying with them through the mating season, unlike many other animals which don't tend to be 'monogamous' at any point in their lives.
Meghan also shared further insight into some of the behind-the-scenes moments of her life with Prince Harry, by posting unseen wedding photographs from their special day.
Across two posts, she documented the moments away from the cameras after the pair were married, as well as sharing shots from inside their wedding reception. This included Prince Harry's speech and toast as the groom, as well as their first dance together as husband and wife.
