Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is one of our ultimate summer style icons, and she always manages to look effortlessly chic - even in the stifling heat. Her secret is dressing carefully for the hot weather, leaning towards flowing midi dresses which avoid a full, tight sleeve while still being flattering. The Duchess' latest look was the perfect example, as she stepped out in a tiered pink midi for an official two-day visit, on Wednesday 24 June.
For her working trip to Jersey this week, Sophie chose a patterned midi dress with puff, half sleeves in a floral print with pleated detailing. The dress loosely ties around the waist with a tassle-ended rope in bright pink, with the same colour being picked up in details around the neckline and skirt layers. She added a pair of metallic gold wedges for a dash of summer glamour.
The exact piece is the 'Tara Dress' in 'Pink Trellis' by Lexy London, and is currently in stock on the brand's website - although some sizes are selling out already:
Luckily, if your size isn't available (or you'd like something a little different along the same lines), there's plenty of fabulous options on the high street. For example, this Nobody's Child 'Pink Floral Puff Sleeve Lia Midi Dress' is a good match, and less than a third of the price at £72:
Dorothy Perkins' 'Pink Ditsy Shirred Waist Jersey Midi Dress' is a steal, on sale for just £18 (at time of writing):
Ghost is also offering a big discount on it's 'Capri Crepe Floral Midi Dress', reduced from £159 to £51.60:
Or, for something a little punchier, go for Boden's 'Irene Puff Sleeve Cotton Dress', which is available in five prints as well as a petite, regular and long fit:
While in Jersey, The Duchess made a number of visits, including to a sight impairment charity, EYECAN. While there, she met with staff and service users to learn more about work there, and even tested out some of the innovative equipment, including smart glasses. Sophie tried out Braille lego being used by two children at the centre, and came face to face with a specially trained guide dog. During her visit, Sophie unveiled a special plaque which will be displayed by EYECAN.
As with any royal visit, the day didn't stop there as The Duchess also met members of the Army Reserve unit Royal Engineers Jersey Field Squadron during a visit to Government House, and became the fist royal to visit Les Ecréhou reef, north of Jersey. According to the BBC, this was part of an environmental thread to her two-day trip, as the reef is known for its wildlife, and The Duchess has also been learning about Jersey's sustainable food commitment.
