If you were looking for a masterclass on cool couples' dressing at Wimbledon, Richard Osman and Ingrid Oliver are here to deliver.
The couple, who have been together for six years and married for four, arrived at day two of Wimbledon ideally attired for the occasion – the Thursday Murder Club author wearing a light blue suit with brown shoes and a green tie, while his wife, the actor and comedian Ingrid Oliver, opted for a sharp white shirt with a pinstripe suit.
No offence to Richard, who also looks great, but it's Ingrid's suit that's going straight on our Pinterest boards. The relaxed, boxy fit of the jacket and trousers creates a feel of effortless cool, especially when worn over a classic white shirt buttoned right up to the t0p. We believe this exact suit is by River Island, which – in great news for us – is currently on sale with 40% off.
Curious about Ingrid and Richard's relationship? They're a rather sweet couple. The pair first met when Ingrid appeared as a contestant on Richard's TV quiz show, Richard Osman's House of Games, but Richard had been crushing on her from afar for a while before.
He told The Times: 'I was aware of Ingrid from social media and thought she was very funny, but beyond a single tweet we’d never communicated. I asked our mutual friend, the comedian Lou Sanders, to check if Ingrid was available. She wasn’t. Twelve months later, in 2021, Ingrid was a guest on my quiz show House of Games. This time Lou told me Ingrid was available, so I spent a long day in front of the cameras desperately trying not to flirt. I made eye contact less with her than any other guest ever.'
When they interacted on the show, with Richard asking Ingrid a question about a musical instrument filled with rice, the presenter was 'instantly smitten', describing Ingrid as 'beautiful, funny and clever'. They exchanged phone numbers, got chatting, started dating, and a few months after meeting moved in together. The following year they got married.
'I love Richard’s height, his humour and that we can talk about anything,' Ingrid told The Times. 'He’s incredibly relaxed, whereas I’m a catastrophiser and still think, this won’t last – maybe he’ll get hit by a car or I’ll get cancer. I’m trying to manage it and he’s helping me with it, bless him. My life is 100% more fulfilling now with Richard. I’ve no idea what the future holds. It doesn’t matter what happens as long as we’re together.'
The couple have gone on to work with each other – Ingrid played Joanna in the film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club – and Ingrid occasionally posts snapshots of their life together (and their cats, Liesl and Lottie) on Instagram. For Richard's birthday, Ingrid addressed her caption to 'my love, the light of my life', and on the release of The Impossible Fortune said she was 'unendingly proud' of her husband. Told you they were sweet!
