There's no getting away from it, it is hot in London at the moment, as Wimbledon fans are finding as they search for ways to stay cool in the stands. One of the most popular methods spectators are turning to are hand-held electric fans, with even Queen Camilla being seen with one when she attended The Championships on Wednesday (8 July).
While there are many different models, the version which has been spotted at Wimbledon many times over the past few years, is by John Lewis and it comes in multiple colours. Last summer, Cate Blanchett and her mum even co-ordinated their fans to their outfits, while watching the tennis together.
While the same models were stocked by the brand again this summer, they have now - unsurprisingly - sold out. As anyone who has tried to purchase air conditioning units, fans and other cooling devices during the heatwave will know, stock quickly sells out and it can be almost impossible to track any down. (You can keep an eye on stock for the classic John Lewis fans here).
However, there is some good news, as the retailer has brought out a new iteration of its classic handheld fans, which have had a 'powerful' upgrade. The new version has four speed settings displayed on a digitally powered screen, and boast a charge life of up to 10 hours. They're also available in three different colours; 'mint' (green), 'petal' (beige-pink) and 'beach' (yellow'). But the best part? They're all still in stock online for £20 [at time of writing]:
For an extra fiver, there's also an alternative version in aluminum casing, which the website states is 'more durable'. These models are still in stock, but with different colour options of black or silver to the previous version:
Also still in stock is the Tecknet fan model, which looks as though it could be the one used by Queen Camilla while at Wimbledon this week. At the moment, you can find it on Amazon for just over £14:
While many people rely on electric mini fans to keep cool when they're out and about, others have turned to classic paper fans to provide some extra air-flow. When the Princess of Wales attended Wimbledon with her daughter last year, for example, the pair used Wimbledon-branded hand fans. These, like so much else, are currently sold out, but you can keep an eye on stock of this style here, and a floral version here.
The Princess of Wales has already made one surprise appearance at the event this year, and is expected to return. The Championships continue this week, culminating with the men's and women's finals over the coming weekend.
