There's no getting away from it, it has been hot across much of the UK this week, and many of us have been searching for inventive ways to keep cool during the heatwave. Even if you were one of the lucky few to bag an air con unit or indoor fan before they sold out everywhere, you're likely still struggling to keep things together as soon as you step outside. Well, it looks like Queen Camilla has come up with a solution, in the form of a clever 'sun savouir' accessory.
On Thursday (9 July), the King and Queen had a very special day out to London Zoo to celebrate 200 years of the Zoological Society of London. The Queen chose a particularly apt dress for the occasion, wearing a white midi shirt dress printed with illustrations of various animals. Her most notable summer accessory however, was her sun parasol, helping protect her from the intense rays during her visit.
Umbrellas are a handy addition or alternative to caps and hats, as they can shield a wider surface area from the sun, creating a personal shaded spot as you move around. The good news is, there are plenty available online which purport to offer UV protection - and for relatively affordable price points.
This printed model is £9.29 and is suitable for showers too, making it a great multi-tasker to have handy for the British weather:
This contrasting print option comes in three colours and says it offers SPF 50 protection from the sun:
Uniqlo also offer a good option in 4 shades, which is currently sold out, but you can keep an eye on stock here:
During their trip to the Zoo, the King and Queen had the chance to get up close and personal with some very special residents, at the 'Penguin Beach' area. A social media post by the Royal Family revealed that the couple helped with a health check on one of the Humboldt penguins, as well as presenting 'a watermelon cake to tortoises in celebration of the Zoo’s bicentenary' and learning about a 'conservation programme to protect Partula tree snails from extinction.'
Queen Camilla was re-wearing a dress she previously chose for Wimbledon last summer. The Queen has also attended The Championships this year, and was spotted in the stands alongside her sister, Annabel Elliot.
