If you fancy yourself as an armchair intelligence agent and have already worked your way through most TV missions – we have an upcoming release (think Bodyguard meets The Capture) that you’re going to want to have on your radar. The Lords’ Day is the terrific new Netflix series where The State Opening of Parliament is hijacked, forcing the hostages into a nail-biting fight for survival that spy thriller fans will love.

At the centre of the drama is British spy Harry Jones (Damson Idris), who must use his espionage prowess to try and stay ahead of the capturers. The plot sounds just as suspenseful as Callum Turner’s The Capture, where he plays a former soldier embroiled in a deep-fake scandal. It’s also reminiscent of the against-the-clock thrills in Bodyguard, where David Budd (Richard Madden), an Iraq war veteran is tasked with as chief protection officer to the Home Secretary (Keeley Hawes), who becomes the target of various terrifying terrorism plots.

Upon the production’s announcement, here’s everything you need to know about The Lords’ Day, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

The six-part series is based on Michael Dobbs' novel The Lords' Day (he's the author behind the hit House Of Cards) and the drama kicks off on the State Opening of Parliament. British spy Harry Jones (Damson Idris) is in the Palace of Westminster when a hostage siege breaks out. Finding himself in a tense fight for survival, Harry will have to rely on his espionage skills to try and free the hostages – but not everyone will survive.

If you’re in the mood for another thrilling espionage drama, we’d point you towards the dark comedy Patriot, which first aired in 2015. The drama revolves around the unlikely intelligence officer and Iraq war vet John Tavner (Michael Dorman) who is forced to return home from his stationing in Amsterdam to infiltrate a Midwestern piping company to try and stop Iran’s nuclear efforts. You can watch all episodes of Patriot now on Prime Video. If you fancy something darker, we’d suggest Spies Of Terror. The thriller follows police intelligence and agents in the aftermath of the November 2015 Paris attacks as one of the biggest manhunts across Europe unfolds. All episodes of Spies Of Terror are available to watch now on ITVX.
