There’s no denying that Harlan Coben is the king of plot twists – from his recent hit thriller I Will Find You, to the eerie town full of secrets in The Stranger and the missing-person mystery Safe; the New Jersey writer knows exactly how to keep us on our toes. If you’ve already worked your way through his mind-bending back catalogue – we bring good news. We’ve scoured the streaming services and unearthed the very best Harlan Coben-style thrillers to watch now.
From a mysterious family saga that’s better than Fool Me Once, to a thrilling chase across the Australian outback and a steamy psychological thriller revolving around swinging neighbours – there’s an option for whatever mood you’re in. So, prepare to have your minds boggled, here are seven terrific thrillers to watch now on ITV, Netflix, the BBC and more.
Pieces Of Her
Based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling novel, this eight-part drama, which is even better than Coben’s Fool Me Once, introduces us to Laura (Toni Collette), who becomes famous overnight – not because of a hidden talent or a reality TV show, but because she stops a gunman in a restaurant and the footage goes viral. Prior to this, Laura lived a quiet life in the coastal town of Belle Isle, Georgia, but now newfound attention could expose the murky past she’s spent decades hiding. Suddenly, her daughter Andy (Bella Heathcote), who has been forced into hiding, has a lot of questions as she discovers her mum is not the woman she thought she knew. All episodes are available to stream now on Netflix.
The Catch
This series transports us to a sleepy south-western fishing town where devoted father and fisherman Ed Collier (Jason Watkins) becomes convinced that his daughter’s new boyfriend is bad news, and he makes it his mission to remove him from her life. But as Ed’s business begins to unravel and increasingly disturbing incidents unfold, it becomes a question of whether you can trust the protagonist, or if he’s losing himself to obsessive paranoia as his own dark secrets resurface. All four episodes are available to stream now on Channel 5.
Cold Call
Sometimes, what makes a thriller particularly frightening is how closely it mirrors real life. This Channel 5 drama introduces us to hard-working single mother June Clarke (Sally Lindsay), who’s already struggling financially when her life is torn apart by a devious scammer who steals all her desperately needed money. Faced with losing her job, bereavement and a series of unthinkable setbacks, she sets out on a quest for answers – and revenge. All episodes are available to stream now on Channel 5.
The Couple Next Door
This deliciously dark and steamy thriller follows the strait-laced couple Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) who move to an affluent suburban neighbourhood and become enchanted by their free-spirited next-door neighbours Danny (Sam Heughan) and Becka (Jessica De Gouw). But when boundaries begin to blur and lines are crossed between the foursome, their relationships are pushed into increasingly dangerous waters… Series 2 follows a fresh set of characters, including successful married doctors Charlotte (Annabel Scholey) and Jacob (Sam Palladio). Their lives are pretty uneventful – until their enigmatic colleague Mia (Aggy K. Adams) moves on to their quiet cul-de-sac… All episodes are available to stream now on Channel 4

The Tourist
For a pacier watch, Jamie Dornan leads this epic cat-and-mouse thriller as Elliot Stanley, a British man, who wakes up in an Australian hospital after a serious car crash with no recollection of who he is or what happened to him. He sets out across the outback to look for answers, but his journey quickly proves to be a perilous one, mysterious enemies begin hunting him and Elliot starts to wonder whether he’s really innocent, after all? Series 2 continues his search for the truth when a mysterious letter draws him to Ireland – and it’s every bit as exhilarating as the first series! All episodes are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
The Killing Kind
Based on Jane Casey’s novel, this legal thriller introduces us to an impressive lawyer, Ingrid Lewis (Emma Appleton), who’s struggling to keep it all together when an ex-client, turned lover and stalker, John Webster, returns to her life. But when her best friend is murdered in a hit-and-run, could the obsessive John help her find the culprit? It’s twisty, frightening and unpredictable as dark secrets from Ingrid’s past begin to surface. All episodes are available to watch now on ITVX.
The Truthers
After the sudden death of her mother, Ruth (Stéphanie Magnin) must return home to her family. But it’s not the comforting reunion you might envision – the 30-year-old has been estranged from her family for some time and her father Martín (Jose Coronado), is acting very strangely – since retiring, he’s become aggressive and obsessed with a sinister conspiracy theory. The tension is almost unbearable, and the more time Ruth spends with him – the more she begins to suspect that her own father might be guilty of killing her mother… The drama is available to stream now on Netflix.
