With the series available to watch now, here’s everything you need to know about Something Undone, including the plot, cast and how to watch it.

What is Something Undone about?

The 10-part series follows Canadian couple Jo (Madison Walsh) and Farid (Michael Musi) who host a true-crime podcast together. For their latest series, they decide to investigate the gruesome unsolved slaughter of the Chaffey family, which took place in the destitute town of Briddus, Newfoundland, in 1989.

The couple split up to work on the case from different locations, with Farid travelling north to Newfoundland to piece the mystery together on the ground by speaking to witnesses. Meanwhile, Jo, a sound effects specialist, isolates in her recently deceased mother’s country home to prepare it for sale, while creating the chilling soundbites to feature on the podcast.

As Farid comes up against crooked cops and hardened townspeople desperate to keep the past buried, Jo struggles to cope with her schizophrenic mother’s suicide. Then she starts picking up disturbing sounds in her home, which leads her on a different path towards unravelling a family secret of her own.

Farid learns that the town’s residents have been reluctant to talk ever since the murders took place since the rumoured ties to satanism ruined their tourism industry. But as he gets closer to the truth, he puts both his life and his wife’s in danger – and is forced to make a difficult decision between his partner and the investigation.

Months later, the couple attempt to mend their strained relationship by moving to a remote island. Jo befriends a mysterious neighbour Christina (Amanda Brugel), who encourages her to look deeper into the mystery of her mother’s history. Later, Farid makes a shocking revelation about the Chaffey case to a local pastor, played by The Killing’s Billy Campbell.

Madison Walsh, who co-created the series with Michael Musi, spoke about the inspiration behind the drama. ‘We were inspired by each of our family’s own “stories from the Dark Farm”, as we called them: old secrets hidden away in generational lore that were maybe commonplace for the times but, when looked at now, are simply horrific,’ she told the ITV.

Michael Musi added: ‘There are lots of themes here. Mental health. Addiction. Caregiving. Justice. Redemption. Farid is determined to keep doing his work – to finally bring justice to the Chaffey family. But everything is telling him to go back to Jo. He wants to do good, to be good, without making any sacrifices. I think Farid has a problem with letting go of control. I can definitely relate to that.’

Is Something Undone any good?

Yes, the series taps into the public fascination with true crime and explores the damage that digging up trauma can have. The series mimics the format of a serial podcast, making it compelling and easy to follow. If you’re a fan of chilling slow-burns in eerie small communities – think The Killing – and haunting cold cases revisited – think Unforgotten – you’re going to want to tune into Something Undone.
