Roll neck, turtle neck, funnel neck, polo neck - whatever you call the style of jumper (and the technical differences between them!) we can all agree their appearance signals a change in the seasons. This week, the Princess of Wales donned her own during a trip to Scotland, as part of a chic ensemble which leaned heavily into the rich hues of autumn.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are taking part in a joint trip to the Isle of Bute in Scotland, which is their first visit to the location. The duo have been getting stuck in with a busy itinerary, much of which has taken place outdoors. For this reason, Kate relied on stylish but practical layers to allow her to take part in a range of different activities on their first day. At the centre of her look, was a deep, mossy green jumper with a roll neck, which she paired with jeans, Chelsea boots and a classic trench coat, topping it all off with a baker hat.
Kate's cosy jumper inspired us to update our winter wardrobe with the staple and, luckily, there are some great picks across the high street. M&S’ £26 ‘Air-Yarn Roll Neck Jumper’ is the perfect essential for layering, and comes in five colours including the green ‘holly’ shade:
For something a little more substantial, Sorentry’s ‘Chunky roll neck jumper’ ticks all the boxes, at £41. It’s available in nine different colours and sizes ranging from S to 4XL:
Or, for something in the middle in a slightly bright olive tone, look to John Lewis’ ‘Soft Cotton Blend Turtle Neck Jumper’:
The Princess opted for deep autumnal shades across all componants of her Scottish look, choosing rich chocolate brown for her trench coat and even jeans. Kate wore the ‘Jodhpur Jean’ in chocolate by Holland Cooper and the ‘Long Gabardine Pembury Trench’ by Burberry.
The Prince and Princess kicked off their trip by having a go at shinty, a traditional sport on the island, before Kate climbed into a tractor to learn about community efforts to preserve Bute’s coastline.
The couple then visited a venue which is a huge part of local island life, serving as a community hub for locals – the pub! The pair were photographed with the team from The Anchor in Bute for a smiling photo.
