There are some staple pieces that Catherine, Princess of Wales, comes back to over and over again. Like a trench coat, brought out the moment the weather demands it. Her maroon Roland Mouret suit. Anything polka dot. And certainly a classic Breton striped jumper.

Kate has been spotted wearing a Breton striped knit over and over through the years, most recently to visit team Wales during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in August. For that outing, the Royal teamed the knit, which is by Erdem, with a green blazer and a pleated white skirt.

But the Princess of Wales has worn the same jumper – and striped jumpers much like it – in simpler ensembles, too. With jeans and chunky boots for a trip to a London pub, with some chic culottes for The King's Cup Regatta way back in 2019, layered under a black blazer to meet fishermen in Fife in 2021.

In short, whenever Kate has a more casual Royal duty to attend to, it's a Breton striped jumper all the way. And we can see why – it looks great, however it's styled. While the Royal prefers to don hers under a blazer for a smarter feel, for us non-Royals a similar style will go just as brilliantly with a trench, a denim jacket, or our big winter coats. It's a design that will never go out of fashion, either. It's genuinely timeless – as proven by the Princess of Wales reaching for the staple for over a decade now.

And the good news for us is that there's now a knit on the high street that looks almost identical to Catherine's. Even better? It's only £25... although it looks three times the price.

Oh, and while the option above is a dead ringer for one of the Princess of Wales's preferred tops, H&M also offers the jumper with a navy base – and that one looks identical to another striped knit Kate has worn on repeat. Behold the Royal in the summer of 2022:

Snap. Kate's love for a Breton striped knit is as long-lasting as her relationship with Prince William, and long will it continue. Nabbing your own is an easy shortcut to replicate her always-elegant style. Chuck it on with jeans, pair it with a skirt, or go for a nautical vibe with a blazer. Pristine blowdry optional, but recommended.
