Morrisons saw huge success with its Mini Egg flavoured liqueur, which only landed last week, so it was no surprise to see another playful flavour make its way onto their shelves. This time, they’re leaning into something a little more traditional for Easter with the launch of Donovan’s Hot Cross Bun Country Cream Liqueur. That’s right. Hot cross buns… in liquid form. With a splash of booze. And we are very excited for it.
Much like their viral Donovan’s Chocolate Speckled Eggs Country Cream Liqueur, this new bottle starts with the same velvety cream base. But instead of chocolate egg flavours, it’s blended with gently spiced, fruity hot cross bun notes. Think cinnamon warmth, sweet dried fruit and that comforting bakery taste - just with a creamy kick. If you’re someone who buys multiple packs of hot cross buns “just in case”, this feels like a natural addition to the Easter line-up. The only downside? It’s limited edition, so it may require a small stockpile.
At just £7 for a 700ml bottle (12% ABV), it feels like a bit of a bargain. The packaging is adorable too, decorated with illustrated hot cross buns, making it a genuinely cute gift if you’re heading to a friend’s for dinner - or simply want to turn up with something a little bit different.
Beyond sipping it neat over ice, there’s serious dessert potential here. We’re already plotting a 'hot cross bun tiramisu'. Not traditional in any sense, but imagine toasted hot cross buns sliced into fingers, dipped into this liqueur and layered with mascarpone for a gloriously Easter-ified take on the classic. It sounds indulgent and a bit naughty, but it's exactly the kind of thing we want to be eating over the long weekend.
