BBQ season is clearly on M&S’s mind, because the retailer has just launched what might be its most fun BBQ item yet. The product is called “long dogs”, which are extra-long sausages measuring a whopping 23cm, and are designed to upgrade your usual hot dog situation.
These aren’t your standard sausages though, M&S has taken its high-quality British meat and turned it into something extra long, which feel like they're made for summer gatherings, long buns and fully loaded toppings. And they’re 100% satisfying to eat as they are to look at.
There are four flavours in the line-up, each bringing something a little different to your BBQ spread. The Smoky Style Long Dog leans into that classic American-style hot dog flavour, making it perfect piled high with mustard, ketchup and crispy onions. The Herby Chicken Long Dog is lighter and fresher, ideal for pairing with salads, grilled veg or a simple squeeze of lemon.
For those who like a bit of heat, the Jalapeño & Cheese Long Dog delivers a spicy, melty combination that works brilliantly with nacho-style toppings or a dollop of sour cream. And then there’s the Reuben Style Long Dog, which might be the most inventive flavour of the lot. Inspired by the famous sandwich, it’s best served with sauerkraut, pickles and a drizzle of dressing for a proper deli-style twist.
The long shape isn’t just for novelty either. It means better bun-to-sausage ratio (something we've always battled with... no seriously), and more room for toppings - which is the whole point of a good hot dog.
The Reuben and Smoky retail for £6.25 for 400g, whilst the Chicken and Jalapeno Cheese ones retail for £6.30 for 400g.
With BBQs, picnics and garden parties firmly on the horizon, these are the kind of products that make hosting easier, more fun and a little bit different from the usual sausages and burgers.
