At the weekend I was wandering around Covent Garden, energy levels rapidly declining and hanger very much setting in. I still had an hour until my dinner plans, so I needed something substantial enough to keep me going without completely ruining my appetite. Naturally, I ended up in M&S.
I was browsing the snack aisle when I spotted their giant and very chunky looking fruit granola squares in the bakery section. I'd never really paid them much attention before, but they looked exactly like what I needed at that moment. And they really really hit the spot.
They're much bigger than your cereal bar or flapjack and are packed with chewy oats, juicy sweet sultanas, dried tart cranberries, crunchy pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. They're somewhere between a flapjack and a granola bar, so they actually feel like you've eaten something substantial.
They were also exactly the right size before dinner. Filling enough to keep me going, but not so heavy that I lost my appetite an hour later. Since then I've found myself thinking about them more often than i'd like to admit. Annoyingly I left the pack at home this morning, so I don't have them to snack on come the afternoon, but they would really be perfect thrown into a handbag before a long train journey, kept in a desk drawer for those afternoons slumps or tucked into a walking bag when you know you're going to be out all day.
At £3.25 for a generous pack of five, I also think they're really good value. This is definitely a new addition to my weekly snack rotation.
