Alison Hammond has been a firm favourite on British TV screens since she appeared on Big Brother back in 2002 and, over the past two decades, only seems to be getting better - in every way. One personal achievement of the This Morning and Great British Bake Off presenter, is a health transformation, losing (and keeping off) around 11 stone. Alison has persevered with a combination of good diet and exercise, including one particular activity which she says has been "brilliant" for her.
Alison's workout of choice? Reformer pilates. 'You feel absolutely incredible after it. I really need a good stretch,' Alison told Closer. 'I’m stiff as a board – so reformer pilates has been brilliant for me.'
While the reformer style of pilates is a newer, on-trend exercise which stars including Cindy Crawford are particularly raving about, Alison also revealed she commits to a good old fashioned workout too. 'I also do this early-morning circuit class from the brilliant Steve Hensel at Blue Zone. I'll go at 6.30am and do a full hour. It's a proper old-school gym' she told Closer.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping for her January 2025 cover interview, Alison revealed that she works out twice a week with her personal trainer 'and I have a couple of weights in my bedroom. I walk, I stretch and sometimes I do a bit of yoga. I try to vary it so it's not the same every day.' She added that the endorphins and 'kick you get out of the way you feel is so good.'
A few years ago, Alison was told she was pre-diabetic which she said was 'frightening', and prompted her to commit to serious lifestyle changes. She told GH, 'I thought: "I have to be an adult about it." The sweets had to stop - and the fatty foods."'
At one point she had a gastric band, but removed it after three years. She also chose not to try weight-loss drugs because, 'for me, as soon as I hear any scare story, I get frightened. So I haven't wanted to use them, but that's not to say I wouldn't in the future.'
